Reliance

Reliance Secure Task Management Ltd are proud sponsors of The Kids Task Force. Reliance is responsible for the transport and care of people, often at vulnerable times in their lives, by providing a range of secure services around offender management.

We understand the importance of security working with trusted partners in the criminal justice sector. For that reason we fully support the work being done by The Kids Taskforce to educate young people and improve their safety and awareness of risk.

The International Labour Organisation and SCREAM Education Package

The Kids Taskforce has signed a memorandum of understanding with ILO to promote the Supporting Childrens Rights through Education the Arts and the Media (SCREAM) education pack which is designed to increase understanding and awareness of child labour. Through creative and innovative teaching methods the SCREAM programme aims to inform children and young people about the world in which they live and the injustices that exist. The pack helps explain issues surrounding child labour, so that young people themselves will be empowered to speak out on behalf of child labourers everywhere.

The character Angenelou in the missdorothy.com programme is a real child that Sharon Doughty and Neil Evans met at the United Nations with a group of police cadets from the Metropolitan Police. He was at the UN to tell his story and to ask adults for help in eliminating child labour.

As specified in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, child labour is an abuse of children’s fundamental rights. Child labour includes all forms of work that deprive children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, that interferes with their education and that is harmful to their physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social development.

The SCREAM education pack introduces young people to the complexities surrounding issues of child labour and helps them to channel their creative energies in a positive and constructive way. It is hoped that in time a worldwide social movement will emerge dedicated to giving working children back their right to childhood.

The SCREAM education pack consists of 14 modules and user's guide and can be downloaded from http://www.ilo.org/ipec/Campaignandadvocacy /Scream/SCREAMresources/lang--en/index.htm

Nelson Mandela Children's Fund supports children throughout the country of South Africa. All the children who get assistance from the Fund are living in poor conditions; many of them don't have proper homes and education. Many have difficulty in going to school because they live too far away and don't have any transport or because their parents can't pay the school fees.

Messages of Support

Prime Minister Gordon Brown

"All children have a right to grow up knowing that they are safe. As well as ensuring that all adults respect and care for children we must empower them with the knowledge and skills to make the world their own. The Kids Taskforce and missdorothy.com have an important part to play in making that happen."

Nelson Mandela

"If everyone was imbued with the same spirit of caring as missdorothy.com the world would be a safer place for children."

Tony Blair

"I am very sorry that that I can't be with you tonight for your awards ceremony and the formal launch of the Kids Taskforce. Modern travel is quick but not, I'm afraid, quick enough yet to get me back across the Atlantic in time….

But I didn't want to miss this opportunity to send my congratulations to all tonight's award winners, to thank you for my own surprise award and, more importantly, to send my best wishes to everyone working to make Kids Taskforce a success.

Kids Taskforce is an important and worthwhile initiative which deserves widespread support and will play a big role in helping children handle risk better and lead safer lives.

My own association with the missdorothy.com programme goes right back to the very early days in 2000 when I helped launch its personal safety programme for children in my own Sedgefield constituency.

From these relatively modest beginnings, I have been delighted to see how this good work has been built on and extended right across the country.

Now with the important support of the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Chief Fire Officers' Association and the Professional Footballers' Association, the Kids Taskforce will ensure all our children receive the good quality and accessible information needed to help them remain safe in our communities.

My best wishes for the future and I hope everyone has a great night."

Fire Minister Angela Smith

"All children and young people have a right to feel safe from all risks - including fire. Young people are particularly vulnerable and that is why the Government and the Fire and Rescue Service are working together to educate them about the risks of fire, and the consequences. The Kids Taskforce can make a real difference to the safety of children and young people.

Protecting children is one of the major priorities of any society. The Kids Taskforce is a tremendous idea - empowering young people and helping them lead safer lives. I am delighted to support this initiative to promote the Watch Over Me series developed by missdorothy.com."

Sir Ian Blair, Commissioner Metropolitan Police Service

"We are dedicated to working with our partners to protect children and young people from harm. Underpinning this work is empowering young people to be able to make effective choices for safer lives. We are pleased to support the role the Kids Taskforce will have in helping to keep children safe."

Sir Ronnie Flanagan GBE, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary

"This is an imaginative and impactive approach to safeguarding our children and young people, it should be enjoyed by all of them, everywhere!"

Paul Ennals, Chief Executive National Children's Bureau

"NCB supports the Kids Taskforce because we know that a few simple messages help children and young people keep themselves safer. The missdorothy.com materials support schools working with partners in the community to ensure that their pupils are helped to manage risk and keep safe."

Paul Clark, Children's Services Director Harrow

"The missdorothy.com programme fits well with every child matters, links to the curriculum, engages and is valued by children, and helps them stay safe and learn; an all round success."

Bob Jones, Chairman, Association of Police Authorities (APA)

"Clear and consistent delivery of safety messages helps to ensure that children and young people have access to information which can help them stay safe at all times. The APA wholeheartedly supports Kids Taskforce in their commitment to ensuring the wide scale delivery of those messages to children and young people, enabling them to make informed decisions which will have a significant impact on their lives."
